Fresh: in the land of the ‘Villes by Lili Leader-Williams

in the land of ‘Villes

I remember the South
as a fat cat’s lazy stretch.

hard work makes thick fingers,
and the love they give taut strings
is slow, heavy like a thumb of thunder
rolling in to smother us.

under a hazy orange sky
an old man on Hay Street sang
in a language I’ve always known
but can’t settle on a name for.

ageless, perhaps.

Lili Leader-Williams is a sack of bones that writes about other sacks of bones. She enjoys coffee, her cats, her husband, and inventing adventures (not necessarily in that order). Her work appeared previously in Slim Volume: This Body I Live In also from Pankhearst.
