Fresh: Paper hearts by Danielle Matthews

Paper hearts

Her eyes climb into me
red hot coals of azure
burning through my layers
of carefully constructed
brick and concrete,
through to the soft parts
inside my chest and ribs.

Soft hands stroke iron
under skin held taut
against my will intense
scarred from previous lives
where I was silk
and tore easily like paper
in a razor sharp wind.

Danielle Matthews is a published writer from Manchester, UK. She lives just down the road with her books, and they’re all very happy together.
