Kirkus Review have launched three new book prizes each worth $50,000. And guess what? Great news! Indie books are eligible.
Only books that have been reviewed by Kirkus are eligible. And Kirkus reviews ain’t cheap. $425 is their bargain basement rate for indie writers who aren’t in a hurry.
So. Yeah. Although our books are pretty decent, they won’t be eligible for the Kirkus largesse.
Incidentally, if we assume that every indie author reviwed by Kirkus went for the $425 rate, then they turned over a minimum $1.275M last year on indie books alone.
Self publishing may be killing music, but it isn’t hurting parasites like Kirkus and the Indie Reader.
